Behind the scenes: Monster Melter 1904
Last week, we re-told the epic story of a brave monster hunter in our first limited edition watch of the year.
A tale that was sharper, hairier and with more eyes than ever before… (If you suffer from arachnophobia, you might want to rethink scrolling further.)

When Onorio D’Epiro originally created Monster Melter 3000, he didn’t have any future plans for the design. However, while on a phone call, he found himself doodling, and doodling… and doodling some more.
Before he knew it, he’d sketched out three different watch designs, all based around the same layout of the original Monster Melter.

That’s when he thought: “Wouldn’t it be great if these two characters come from a timeline. The guy is from a lineage of monster hunters, and the monster has evolved over the centuries.”
Cue the birth of the giant arachnid… *terrified screams*

Monster Melter 1904 replaces slimy tentacles for hairy legs and a ray-gun for a super cool, steampunk jet-pack.
Similar to Monster Melter 3000, the time can be decoded by looking at the spider's severed, red claw to see the hours, while the mad inventor’s gun marks the minutes.

Monster Melter 1904 began as a monochrome sketch to match the source material of Edwardian folklore illustration.
The watch then went through roughly 7-8 rounds of sampling, which included experimenting with different tones, different dial designs and different proportions.
Our talented team worked with Onorio to rework the spider’s face shape, the character’s costume and a few other little details. They’re sick of the sight of cobwebs, that’s for sure.
Eventually, the watch was complete, in all its terrifying glory!

Monster Melter 1904 was available on our website for just 24 hours, so did you manage to get your claws on one?
If you did, be sure to tag us in any photos on social media @mrjoneswatches !
If you didn’t, you were either too slow or suffer from crippling arachnophobia… in which case, fair enough.
