Margaret talks about her design:

“With the design I aimed for absolute simplicity, the design puts all the emphasis on the hands - there’s no need for numbers on the dial.

There’s a 3d element that you get because of the build up with one hand on top of the other. You get these shadows and this richness and then once you’ve got the white border, which is also taken from the motorway signs, you’ve got something completely new."

Margaret Calvert OBE RDI, is a British typographer and graphic designer, best known for her work with Jock Kinneir on the design of Britain’s road signs.

After graduating from Chelsea College of Art in 1957, Margaret started working with Jock Kinneir. They were commissioned to design a signing system for the new motorway network, which included the development of the Transport letterform.

Following this work they were appointed by the Worboys committee to redesign the sign system for the entire British road network. The new system they produced was launched in 1965 and is still in use today.

Margaret is also known for the design of ‘Calvert’, a Monotype font, used to sign the Tyne and Wear Metro. Alongside her commercial practice, she taught at the Royal College of Art from 1966 to 2001, where she was Head of Graphic Design from 1986 to 1991.

Rail Alphabet 2, designed in collaboration with Henrik Kubel, is one of her most recent projects, exhibited in a retrospective at London’s Design Museum in 2021–22. titled ‘Woman at Work’.

Shipping guide for watches:

- FREE DHL Express shipping, 1-3 working days

 We now include all duties and taxes in the price of your watch.

This means, the price you pay when you checkout is the full price and you will not have to pay any extra charges.

Shipping to Germany: please note due to new legislation in Germany we are no longer able to pre-pay import fees.

This means we will reimburse you after you have paid the bill. To do this we will need: your proof of import fee payment, your full name (of bank account holder), your BIC and IBAN numbers.

Please email us info@mrjoneswatches.com with this information after you have paid the import charge.

Shipping guide for t-shirts: 

Our t-shirts are printed by us, made-to-order and shipped from our workshop in London. This means that occasionally, if your order includes a t-shirt there may be a 2-3 day delay in dispatch.

If you place an order for both a watch and t-shirt(s), they will be shipped together via DHL. Delivery times for these can be found on our shipping guide here.

If you order a t-shirt without a watch, it will be shipped via a Royal Mail tracked service which usually takes a little longer, or you have the option to pay an additional fee for a DHL Express service. You can see an estimated timescale when you input your address at the checkout.

Shipping guide for straps (unless purchased with a watch): 

- Free Royal Mail shipping, 3-7 working days (depending on location)

- €12, DHL Express, 1-3 working days 

These delivery times are a guide based on the DHL and Royal Mail terms of service, products may, in some unusual cases take longer to arrive. If this happens, please get in touch. 

Return your watch for an exchange

We are happy to exchange unworn watches.

Fastening the watch will cause damage to the leather. If this is the case, we charge for the watch strap (or we can put the worn strap on the exchanged watch for free).

Please email us directly if you think your watch is faulty.

Return your watch for a refund

To return for a full refund, you have 30 days if purchased online. 

If you purchased your watch in-store, we can offer an exchange or store credit only. This is because you’ve seen the watch in person and had the opportunity to try it on. Please let us know if you’re purchasing as a gift.

T-shirt returns and Exchanges

We recommend checking the measurements of our t-shirts on our size guide before placing your order, you can also check them here

However, if your t-shirt is faulty, we can offer an exchange or a refund. In this circumstance, please email us within 30 days of placing your order, with a photograph of the problem, as well as your order number.

To return other products (such as straps) please email us: info@mrjoneswatches.com to arrange this.

EU and International returns

To request a return for an unwanted watch, please follow the instructions below.. Our team will process the request and issue your label or contact you directly within 1 working day.

1) Request your return label here.

2) Once issued, Print it off and stick it to your original packaging.

3) Take it to your nearest DHL drop off point.

If you no longer have your original packaging, please ensure your watch is securely wrapped in bubble wrap / something similar to protect it in transit.

Please note: we do not cover shipping costs for unwanted items, returned from outside of the UK. If you are returning a watch that is faulty we may be able to cover shipping costs if your watch is within warranty, please contact us ahead of sending in this instance.
